It always amazes me that there are lions in North America. The thing is they are very very shy and do not like to be seen. They are however very common in north A merica, especially the rocky mountain west.

Wednesday evening my wife pointed out a dead deer (faw n) on the hillside across from our deck. We assumed it had frozen to death over the winter and was only recently exposed by the melting snow. It did not look like it had been dead for a while tho as it’s fur was all intact and it was not weathered like you would usually see with an animal that has been dead for several months.

This morning I took the dog out to go pee and there was a lion eating the faw n, approximately 100 feet from our kitchen . Sorry SR20 but it was too dark to take a picture anyway. Now our presumption is that the lion killed the fawn earlier in the week and stashed it on the hillside to come back later for snack time.

I’m honestly more worried about lions than bears when hiking, biking, or camping. Oh my.

Woa crazy he was that close. A guy just caught a lynx in Michigan. First time in a 100 years one has been seen in the lower peninsula.

They are truly magnificent in person, some y ears ago one wandered in front of our house across the porch. Saw it from about 25ft away, not sure what it was doing so low in elevation ( 2500ft)

99 times out of 100 a lion won’t want to mess with a human, unless you are dragging raw steaks through the forest.

I have almost run into a lion on a mountain bike near Grass Valley California, it was a bit exciting to say the least.

Lions are very common in northern california, there were even lion sightings in Rancho Cordova, just east of sacramento a few years ago. They said don’t let your dogs out to run unattended, they might get eaten.

Oh I know. But it happens. I’m not that worried about it, just more than I am about bears. I usually have bear spray with me. But you’ll usually know there is a bear around before he tries to eat you. With a lion, you’ll know when his teeth are in your neck. I feel like fire season increases the risk too, if animals are displaced and hungry or scared.

If you’ve spent any time walking around in BC you’ve been watched by one.

I worked in the field for 5 years.. they’ve seen me, I’ve never met one eye to eye though.

So I’ve seen two in Montana in person and one in California. I know they have seen me much more than I’ve seen them.

I’ve only seen one at a significant distance.  I have, however, been stalked by one that I heard, and found tracks circling back, but never saw.  I assume it was just curious, as I was in a pretty remote area on a mountain the not many people ever hike on, but needless to say I cut that hike short and circled back to the truck.

I usually see them crossing in the headlights, saw one this winter coming home from night skiing.

I’m glad they are around to see.

I ride with bear spray too, but I am not sure if a lion is going to give you a chance to use it.

I was not aware that lions stashed their kills at all.

Yes, very common, usually in a tree or buried in brush or leaf litter.
